Price-gougers beware: Minister warns of stern action against profiteering at Ramadan bazaars

KUALA LUMPUR: Stern action will be taken against those who set unreasonable prices at Ramadan bazaars under the Rahmah Bazaar programme, says Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister said officers will conduct frequent inspections of vendors to ensure offered prices were reasonable with the average cost of materials.

"Based on the data from the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry, we will be able to determine the acceptable price range that vendors should be setting for their products.

"Using this, our officers will monitor and advise vendors to set prices within the reasonable range and to not raise prices without any good reason.

"However, those found doing intentional profiteering or price gouging will have stern action taken against them without any compromise," he stressed after launching a Payung Rahmah initiative at a hypermarket here.
